SAFETY PLAN ADDENDUM

CHILD SUPERVISON: SAFE SLEEP ENVIRONMNET AND 15 MINUTE CHECKS

Community Resources Preschool serves children ages 2 through 6.  Safe Sleep policies do not apply to our program.

 

TRAINING AND DRILLS-EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL INCIDENT RESPONSE

Professional Development training will be conducted according to the schedule listed below.  All staff training certificates will be placed in each staff member’s personnel file.  In addition, a log of general trainings with attendance records and supporting materials will be kept on file.

  1. Identify required staff training by type and schedule:

    1. Child Abuse and Maltreatment identification Reporting and Prevention will be conducted through approved on-line New York State Mandated Reporter Resource Center.  This will be conducted upon hiring and renewed every two years.

    2. Infection control and reporting infectious diseases will be conducted through approved on-line training (http://www.icprofessor.com/childcare.php).  This training will be conducted upon hiring.

    3. SIDS and Shaken Baby training is not applicable as we do not serve children under 12 months of age.

    4. Training for Assistant Teachers will be conducted three times per year.  Training will include, but is not limited to, developmentally appropriate practice, behavior management, CPR and First Aid, autism, enhancing language skills and other topics suggested by the director or classroom teacher.

    5. Provisions of the Written Safety Plan will be reviewed annually with staff at the start of each school year or upon hiring.  The plan will be made available to each staff member in a binder in each classroom as well as in the main office.

    6. Critical Incident Response protocols will be reviewed annually in conjunction with the Written Safety Plan at the start of each school year or upon hiring.

    7. CPR/First Aid training will occur every 2 years or as necessary for the renewal of the certification.

    8. Evacuation procedures are reviewed in conjunction with the Written Safety Plan at the start of each school year or upon hiring.  In addition, evacuation procedures are practiced each time a fire drill is conducted.

    9. Fire Drill procedures are reviewed in conjunction with the Written Safety Plan at the start of each school year or upon hiring.  Fire Drills are conducted twice per month (September – December) and once monthly for the remainder of the year. These drills are conducted at varied day and time.

 

 

  1. For each training module or drill type identify and describe:

    1.  The individual responsible for the training or the drill will be listed on the log of Professional Development Training.  The individuals responsible for training will be the Educational Director, the Supervisor of Fire Drill Systems or the Fire Drill Conductor, outside consultants or staff including, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, or Nurse Practitioners.

    2. Training will be conducted on site including but not limited to three sessions per school year.  Additional Educational Conferences will be attended when appropriate.  Bi-Weekly staff meetings may address additional training items.  Drills will be conducted twice monthly (September through December) and once monthly for the remainder of the school year.

    3. Training will be both lecture based and practical hands on experiences. 

 

  1. Provide details for how real time drills will be conducted with minimal staff foreknowledge

    1. Fire drills are conducted by the Supervisor of Fire Drill Systems or the Fire Drill Conductor at varied times and days according to the monthly schedule listed above.  Staff will not be informed of such drills and are instructed to follow the safety plan exit plan as posted in their classroom. In addition, they are required to bring their emergency bag which contains class lists and contact information, attendance books, bottled water, small first aid kit and waterless soap.

    2. The possibility of a variety of Environmental Emergencies will be reviewed with the Safety Plan.  Practice Drills for brush fires/ flooding will be conducted in conjunction with fire drills.

    3. Evacuation drills will be conducted in conjunction with fire drills.  Upon practicing an evacuation drill, the staff will proceed along the route to our evacuation center.

    4. Response to medical emergencies and critical incidents will be conducted through telephone intercom announcements.  Staff will be informed to contain (lock down) their classrooms in response to an emergency in another location within the building. 

 

  1. Criteria for evaluation training effectiveness

    1. Competency of staff training subjects will be determined through assessment tests and classroom observations.

    2. Corrective action will include repetition of the drill, reeducation of materials and individual/group discussions.
